The publication compiles the second year of the project and is based on works by artists-in-residence Johnny Chang and Afrang Nordl\u00f6f Malekian at Grafikens Hus, as well as yasmine eid-sabbagh\u2019s work at the Arab Image Foundation. They explore, in various ways, “gatherings” as organizational events rather than acts of collecting. One question that the publication’s contributors address is the fact that a collection always risks marking the absence of something. Ghosts, as a concept to talk about how archives and collections exclude, reveal how these structures and systems write their own stories, where presence is marked\/defined by absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The projects artist-in-residence, Afrang Nordl\u00f6f Malekian, publish his script to the performance\u00a0Suddenly It Happens!<\/em>\u00a0that was part of his investigation av the history of the lottery and\u00a0Public Art Agency Sweden\u2019s collection of prints. The inspiration for this work comes from Grafikens Hus\u2019collaboration with the state-owned lottery\u00a0Penninglotteriet\u00a0<\/em>between 1995\u20131998, where 75\u00a0prints were\u00a0commissioned\u00a0to\u00a0be reproduced in miniature for the scratch-off lottery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A version of the script from the designer and artist-in-residence, Johnny Chang\u2019s performance lecture\u00a0Living with Images\u00a0<\/em>is\u00a0also\u00a0published in the book, reworked into a\u00a0lyrical\u00a0essay.\u00a0Living with Images\u00a0<\/em>is a performance lecture that took place at\u00a0H\u00e4gerstens\u00e5sens medborgarhus in collaboration with the curatorial project A Movement to Hold.\u00a0The essay is\u00a0filled with voices, quotes, reflections, references, phenomenological investigation, and music. It invites the reader on a poetic and political walk in dialogue\u00a0with\u00a0archives, people, and\u00a0acrosstimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two scripts provide an insight into the artistic process. The work of the artists-in-residence is part of the project\u2019s proposals for methods of acquisition, collection, and archives within Samlande tankar\/Collecting Thoughts<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This publication also includes\u00a0an interview\u00a0with\u00a0artist\u00a0yasmine\u00a0eid-sabbagh by\u00a0Johnny Chang and Afrang Nordl\u00f6f Malekian. eid-sabbagh works at the Arab Image Foundation\u2014<\/em>a non-profit\u00a0organisationbased in Beirut\u00a0with over 50,000 photos and documents in its collection. The objects are from\u00a0or\u00a0connected to the Middle East, North Africa,\u00a0and the Arab diaspora. In the conversation with\u00a0eid-sabbagh, names, categorisations, conditions for acquisition, and\u00a0preservation\u00a0are discussed, as well as what it means that a collection is absent but claims to exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
